Buying from CarStrike

Can I book a test drive?

Yes. Send an enquiry from any car's page, or contact CarStrike (call 0449 990 498 or email hello@carstrike.com.au), and we will have the car ready for you.

Is finance available?

Yes. A quick, no-obligation finance check does not affect your credit score.

Do your cars come with a warranty?

Used cars sold by a licensed Queensland motor dealer may come with a statutory warranty, depending on the car's age and odometer reading. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply as well. Ask us about a specific car.

Can I have a car inspected before I buy?

Of course. You are welcome to arrange an independent inspection by your own mechanic or a service such as the RACQ.

How do I contact you?

You can call 0449 990 498 or email hello@carstrike.com.au, or use the contact form on our Contact page. We are in COORPAROO.

Japanese car imports

How can I verify that the odometer mileage is genuine?

Mileage is checked against the vehicle's official Japanese export certificate (the deregistration document) and the original auction sheet, which records the odometer at the time of sale. Ask CarStrike to see both documents for any import before you buy.

Do Japanese imports come with a service history?

It is common for Japanese imports to arrive without a physical logbook, because previous owner details are removed before export under Japanese privacy rules. Ask us what servicing has been done since the car arrived — a fresh service (oils, filters and a brake and safety inspection) before handover is the best way to bridge the gap.

Does the vehicle have a timing belt or a timing chain?

It depends on the engine. Most modern Toyota hybrids (built after the late 1990s) use a timing chain rather than a rubber timing belt. Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine and do not need regular replacement, which keeps long-term maintenance costs down. We can confirm the details for any specific car.

Do these vehicles have a WOVI (written-off) record?

A vehicle imported from Japan has no Australian written-off (WOVI) history, because it has never been registered here. The original auction sheet shows its grade and recorded damage, and every import must pass Australian Design Rule (ADR) compliance and a safety inspection before it can be registered.

Can I view the original Japanese auction sheet?

Yes. The auction sheet is written by independent inspectors in Japan at the time of sale and describes the car's condition before it left Japan. Ask us for the sheet — and a translation — for any import we sell.

Do you offer test drives?

Yes. Book a time with CarStrike so the car is ready and a team member is available. Ask us whether we can bring the car to you. Call us on 0449 990 498.

Where are you located?

You will find us at our yard at 232/A OLD CLEVELAND RD, COORPAROO QLD 4151. To make sure the car is ready and someone is available, please book viewings and test drives in advance. Call us on 0449 990 498.

What does the warranty cover?

Used cars sold by a licensed Queensland motor dealer may come with a statutory warranty, depending on the car's age and odometer reading (Motor Dealers and Chattel Auctioneers Act 2014). Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply as well. Ask us about the warranty on a specific car.

Can you source a specific car if you don't have it in stock?

Yes. If you are after a particular model, colour or trim level, we can look for it at upcoming Japanese auctions and import it for you. Send an import request and the CarStrike team will come back with options.

Request an import
Am I allowed to arrange an independent mechanical inspection?

We encourage it. You are welcome to have the car inspected by your own mechanic or an independent service such as the RACQ before you buy.

Do you offer price matching?

If you find a comparable vehicle (similar grade, kilometres and condition) for less, talk to CarStrike. We are always open to a conversation about getting you the best deal.

What is the typical timeframe for a custom import?

Allow up to about two months from purchase in Japan. That covers buying at auction, export approval, shipping, Australian customs clearance, compliance, a safety certificate and registration. We keep you updated at every stage.

Is it difficult to insure a Japanese import?

Not usually. Most major Australian insurers cover Japanese imports. You may need to call rather than apply online, because the car is listed as a "grey import", and policies are often written on an agreed value rather than a market value.

Can you arrange shipping to other states?

Yes. Transport to regional Queensland or to an interstate depot can be arranged at the buyer's cost. The car is dispatched once settlement funds have cleared.

Are spare parts readily available?

For most popular models, yes. Many Japanese-market cars share parts with Australian-delivered models (for example the Toyota Corolla, Yaris and C-HR), so filters, brake pads and tyres are available at any parts store. Body and interior parts can be sourced locally or ordered from Japan.

Can the dashboard language be converted to English?

It depends on the year. On older models (before about 2018) the instrument cluster usually cannot be changed from Japanese, but many newer models can be switched to English. The factory infotainment unit can also be replaced with an Apple CarPlay / Android Auto unit for a small extra cost.

Which car models are eligible for import?

Only vehicles on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (SEVs) — or that meet another import approval pathway — can be imported into Australia. The full register is published by the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure.

Is finance available for imports?

Yes. CarStrike works with finance specialists who understand imported vehicles and can find competitive rates.

What is included in the drive-away price?

A drive-away price includes everything you need to drive the car home: the car, its safety certificate (RWC) and Queensland registration and stamp duty as listed. Ask us for the breakdown on any car.

Our rental fleet includes the toyota alphard, Ldv T60, Toyota HIACE, Audi A4, Mitsubishi ASX. The list on this page shows every vehicle and whether it is free on your dates.

How much does it cost to rent a car or van?

Rates start from $50 a day or $350 a week. Each vehicle on this page shows its own daily and weekly rates.

Is pricing charged daily or weekly?

Both, depending on the vehicle and how long you need it. Where a vehicle has a weekly rate, it usually works out cheaper for longer hires.

What is included in the rental price?

The rental rate covers the use of the vehicle and the insurance cover set out in your rental agreement (subject to an excess). You are responsible for fuel, tolls and any fines incurred during the hire.

Do I need to pay a bond or security deposit?

Yes. The bond is between $0 and $600, depending on the vehicle, refunded after the vehicle is returned in the same condition. An insurance excess applies in the event of an accident.

What driver's licence do I need to rent a vehicle?

You must hold a current, valid driver's licence, and the name on the rental agreement must match the name on the licence.

Is there a minimum or maximum driver age?

Standard rental age requirements apply (typically 21 or older). We confirm the age requirement when we confirm your booking.

Can I use the rental vehicle for work or commercial use?

Vans and utes in our fleet suit trade work, deliveries and moving house. Let us know how you will use the vehicle when you request a booking, because some uses (such as rideshare or carrying passengers for hire) need our written agreement.

How do I book a rental vehicle online?

Choose your pick-up and return dates above, then press "Request booking" on an available vehicle and send your details. We confirm availability and the booking details with you — nothing is charged online.

Can I change or cancel my booking after it's confirmed?

Plans change. Contact CarStrike as soon as possible if you need different dates or need to cancel, and we will help. Call us on 0449 990 498.

Where do I pick up and return the rental vehicle?

Pick-up and return are at our yard at 232/A OLD CLEVELAND RD, COORPAROO QLD 4151. Please arrive at your scheduled pick-up time.

What happens if I return the vehicle late?

Please be on time. A late fee of $25 an hour applies when the vehicle comes back after the agreed return time.

How much fuel do I need to return the vehicle with?

Return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pick-up (and the right fuel — many vans take diesel). You are responsible for the cost of any incorrect fuel.

Are there kilometre limits on rentals?

Yes. The allowance is 200 km a day; extra kilometres are charged as set out in your rental agreement.

Am I covered by insurance, and what is the excess?

Yes. In the event of an at-fault accident, the hirer pays an insurance excess of $1,000.

Can I add an additional driver to my rental?

Only the drivers named on the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. Ask us before your pick-up if someone else needs to drive.

Can I take the rental vehicle interstate?

The rental agreement limits where the vehicle can go: Queensland only.

What happens if the vehicle breaks down or I have an accident?

Make sure everyone is safe, then contact CarStrike straight away. Call us on 0449 990 498. We will arrange help for a mechanical breakdown that was not caused by misuse.

Do you offer child seats or other extras with rentals?

Ask about any extras you need when you request your booking and we will let you know what we can provide.

How is the vehicle cleaned and prepared between rentals?

Every vehicle is supplied clean and tidy. Please return it in a similar state to avoid a cleaning fee of $100.
